Max Mörtl, born in 1984 in Munich, studied Communication Design in Augsburg before changing to the HAW Hamburg, where he graduated with honors in 2012, specializing on Animation and Film. Since 2010 he is working as a freelance Director and Animator and gives workshops at the HWA Hamburg, where he wants to excite students for analogue animation techniques.
Max’s animations, music videos and promotional videos are characterized by an unapologetically hand-made aesthetic that comes about through a creative process dominated by analogue methods. Always on the look out for new representational means, Max experiments with diverse tactile materials. Max’s interactive music video Visual Beat won several awards.
