Animation legend Gunnar Wille receives Lifetime Achievement Award from Fredrikstad Animation Festival 2016. Gunnar Wille has since the early seventies played an important role for Danish Animation. He has written, designed and directed several animated series, and is probably most known for his character “Skrumpen”. Wille has also worked with theatre, children books, television and he has developed and experimented with computer animation, and must be characterized as a multi-artist. Gunnar Wille will both retire and celebrate his 70th birthday in 2016, which gives us the perfect opportunity to honour his important contribution as both a creator and as a key person in the development of the Danish animation industry.
Chairwoman of the Festival Board, Trine Vallevig Håbjørg states “With his strong feel for the narrative he has also influenced the students at the National Film school of Denmark. And we must say that, as head of the animation departement since 1992, he has really been a driving force for the success of Danish animation industry. A success that also has been important and inspiring for the rest of the Nordic and Baltic countries.”
