Johan Edström is a producer specializing in animation and visual effects. He owns and runs the animation production company APPARAT Filmproduktion AB and is a partner of the production company THE CHAPEL FILMS AB. He started working in film in 1977, a time when editing amounted to physically cutting and splicing something together. Some of Edström’s projects include projection design for theatre, motion design for documentaries, short films, children’s TV, music videos, feature film title design, TV on-air design, and TV commercials. Johan has done endless amounts of stop-motion animation but also works with other animation techniques, tabletop cinematography, and as a live-action director and producer. He has been nominated twice for an Emmy award as director of the animated TV-series Doug (Nickelodeon). Johan has served two years as a member of the nomination jury for the Swedish award Guldbaggen and is a board member of the Swedish Animation organization SAAVA as well as a member of The Swedish Film Academy.
