One of the last traces I left behind was the weak snow, contemplates Stellan Skarsgård in the role of Anders Ramsell. The Breath´s Deer is told through hundreds of watercolor paintings. It´s a film about what awaits humanity and moves seamlessly between genres of Sci-Fi and Fine Art. Where will it leave you?

Aquarelle (watercolor) is Anders Ramsell´s choice of material for animation. Each frame is painted with brush, water and pigment on paper. In Ramsell´s animated works is the auto-portrait omnipresent. Skarsgård does the voice over in The Breath´s Deer, whilst visually the viewer watches an animated version of Ramsell. Skarsgård takes on the role of Ramsell.
The idea is that anyone can take on the role of Ramsell. Gender, the color of your skin or age doesn’t matter.
The actor Rutger Hauer has earlier taken on the roll of Anders Ramsell in the art film Genderness, also animated in watercolor. Genderness which was Ramsell´s debut auteur film presented the idea that Ramsell can be both male and female. The film had its world premiere in Los Angeles and it was screened at The Chinese Theater in Hollywood as apart of the official program of the 2016 edition of The Beverly Hills Film Festival. Rutger Hauer, who did one of the leading roles in Ridley Scott’s Sci-Fi classic Blade Runner contacted Ramsell after seeing the artist´s own aquarelle paraphrase Blade Runner – The Aquarelle Edition. That is how they ended up working together. Blade Runner – The Aquarelle Edition has since it was released in 2012, for example been screened at the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam.
