The short film submissions are closed and the festival administration welcomes the Nordic-Baltic preselection committee to Fredrikstad this week. This year the festival opened a new international competition category and saw a record number of submissions. In the Nordic-Baltic student film category, there are entries from 25 schools including 6 different schools in Norway. The Fredrikstad Animation Festival is proud to be able to lift young animators into the world arena. In the Nordic-Baltic competition, there are 59 coproductions, representing 17 more countries, out of all of the submissions 53 countries making the Fredrikstad Animation Festival a global celebration of animation.
The pre-selection jury consists of FAF festival director Anders Narverud Moen, journalist Vassilis Kroustallis, and director Katarina Lundquist.
About the Jury
Vassilis Kroustallis is a Greek film and animation professional based in Estonia. He has run the independent animation news journal Zippy Frames since 2011 and has served as animation programme director at PÖFF Shorts (Black Nights Film Festival, Estonia) since 2019. As a film critic, Kroustallis has written for several publications such as Film Is A Fine Affair, High On Films, and Next Best Picture, and is Rotten Tomatoes-approved. His affiliations include an Annie Awards membership, and he has acted as a consultant for animated festival submissions and as a script mentor in various events, including freelance. Kroustallis has written two short film scripts, The Hotel and Mar(t)y, and has completed a very short film, Homespital.
Katarina (Katta) Lundquist is an award-winning director from Oslo, Norway. Her directorial debut short film Forglemmegei (Forget-Me-Not) was shortlisted for the Student BAFTA’s, and she was one of the chosen directors for the 2019 edition of Nordic Talents, where she pitched an original animated series about death, life and coming of age. Katarina works as a director and visual artist at Qvisten Animation, and is also currently writing and developing an animated feature film which was selected for the Cinekid Script Lab 2021-2022 edition.
