Did you miss our great masterclasses from last year? Looking forward to this year’s festival in October? Our Early bird passes give you access to the three masterclasses broadcast from a professional TV-studio in London during our digital 2020 festival edition. The masterclasses offered deep insights into the world of Oscar-nominated animation director Michaël Dudok de Wit, the work of experimental short filmmaker Lizzy Hobbs and the craft of stop motion animator Tim Allen.
The highly-acclaimed director and Oscar winner for best animated short film, Michaël Dudok de Wit presented his work and films, including the Oscar-nominated feature The Red Turtle, which was produced by the legendary Studio Ghibli.
Lizzy Hobbs is an experimental filmmaker who uses her unique style to tell surprising stories. With her distinct analogue technique, her films offer a creative and artistic perspective on everything from historical moments to mythical tales. In her masterclass, she discussed her approach to creating short films and presented a wealth of material from her productions.
Through more than 20 years of experience, Tim Allen has worked with stop motion all over the world. His involvement in production ranges from Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs and Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie to several award-winning shorts. In his masterclass, Tim provided an in-depth walkthrough of the process he employs to bring characters to life.
Fredrikstad Animation Festival 2021 is held from 21to 24 of October. Having introduced a digital festival to accompany the physical edition in 2020, the festival administration continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and is fully-prepared to make adjustments as they become necessary.
