Norwegian illustrator and author behind Detective Agency No. 2 and the Krypto graphic novels, with work published in over 22 countries.

Hans Jørgen Sandnes is an award-winning Norwegian author, illustrator and animator. He is the co-creator, with Jørn Lier Horst, of “Detective Agency No. 2”, Norway’s best-selling children’s book series, with more than three million copies sold. Sandnes is also the creator of the acclaimed graphic novel series “Krypto”, which received the Norwegian Ministry of Culture’s Comic Book Award in 2022. Together with Karen Margrete Kilane, he has created the “Familien von Humbug series”, nominated for the 2026 Sørlandets Litteraturpris. He has illustrated works by renowned authors including Alf Prøysen, Anne-Cath. Vestly and Maja Lunde, with his illustrations published in more than 22 countries. As a filmmaker, he has directed animated films and children’s series for NRK Super.
