Espen Aukan

Espen Aukan is a Norwegian screenwriter and playwright living in Fredrikstad, Norway. He has a BA in film and theatre studies from NTNU, Trondheim, and a degree in screenwriting from 2008, from the Norwegian Film School, Lillehammer. He has written stage plays, short and feature films, worked on documentaries, and on television series such as Elias: Rescue Team Adventures and the award-winning The Games. In 2010 he was nominated for the National Ibsen Award for his modern take on the classic brothers Grimm fairytale Snow White. For the stage he has also adapted H.C. Andersen’s The Ugly Duckling, and the family musical Syver & Beatrice – A Summer Mystery! based on a popular series of children’s books from the small town of Kristiansund where he grew up. He feels most at home in the fantasy/horror/sci-fi genres, and has written the horror comedy short films Baby Boom and Wettlaufer’s Widow. He co-wrote Norway’s first werewolf movie Viking Wolf, and he penned the screenplay for Roar Uthaug’s blockbuster Troll which is still one of the most viewed Non-English language Netflix productions to date. He also wrote the sequel Troll2 which will be released on Netflix in 2025.
