Following its world premiere at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where the audience responded with spontaneous cheering and a standing ovation, Tommy Wirkola and Rasmus Sivertsen’s wildly inventive new animated film Spermageddon is set for its first-ever Norwegian screening at FAF. The film is currently making waves at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, and will officially premiere in Norway on January 10. But now it’s coming to Fredrikstad as early as 25 October.
“I was at the screening in Annecy myself, and it was by far the wildest cinema experience I’ve ever had. We’re thrilled to offer the FAF and Fredrikstad audience this unique opportunity to see Spermageddon at home and as the first in the country. People need to get their tickets fast because this will be a full-on party!” says Festival Director Anders Narverud Moen.
FAF will recreate the cinematic magic with Spermageddon’s first Norwegian screening, and promise an unforgettable experience for the audience. The Hollywood Reporter has already predicted that the film is destined for cult status, and after the recent midnight screenings at Fantastic Fest in Texas, Polygon’s reviewer highlighted that it’s a film “meant to be seen together on the big screen in a packed cinema.”
The exclusive screening of the unpredictable and humorous musical comedy will take place at Fredrikstad Cinema on 25 October at 21:30. After the film, there will be a Q&A session with the filmmakers and cast, along with other fun surprises.
Spermageddon is, of course, packed with jokes, innuendos, and clever wordplay, but it’s also full of charm and warmth, described as a spectacular road trip on life’s very first highway. Wirkola, best known for gory genre films like Dead Snow and The Trip, created the film with co-director Rasmus Sivertsen and Qvisten Animation—the studio behind more family-friendly hits like In the Forest of Huckybucky, Three Robbers and a Lino, and Just Super.
“It warms my animation-loving heart that Norway’s largest animation festival will be Spermageddon’s first encounter with the Norwegian audience! Our goal with Spermageddon has been to create a film that is, above all, funny and goes all out. But we also wanted to make a film that hits the audience in the heart,” says director Rasmus Sivertsen.
Overwhelming Response
Fredrikstad Cinema has already received an enthusiastic response to the teaser released on 5 September, which has now been viewed over 400,000 times.
“We’ve never experienced anything like this! Based on the response to the teaser, we hope that 13-year-olds of all ages from Fredrikstad (which is most of us) come to this exclusive premiere. We are very excited and believe it will be a cinema experience like no other!” says cinema manager Jørgen Søderberg Jansen.
Individual Tickets for Spermageddon are available at Fredrikstad Kino.
4-day Festival Passholders can now order tickets to this screening. Friday Day passes go on sale 7 October.
On Saturday, there will also be a Meet the Filmmakers: Spermageddon event, which is free to attend.
Spermageddon is produced by 74 Entertainment, led by Jørgen Storm Rosenberg and Kjetil Omberg, in collaboration with Qvisten Animation, co-produced by Stian Tveiten and line producer Fredrik Arntzen (a native of Fredrikstad), along with a talented team of professionals. The screenplay was written by Wirkola, Jesper Sundnes, and the late Vegar Hoel.
