Fredrikstad Animation Festival is thrilled to announce the first speaker for FAF2025: Germany-based Nikita Diakur, a major innovator in 3D animated short films. With his shorts, Diakur has managed to surprise even the most jaded festival programmers with his “ugly” 3D style, developed through an unexpectedly innovative use of CGI, machine learning, and simulation. In his talk at the animation festival, Diakur will showcase his unique approach as a filmmaker and offer insight into how he creates his worlds for the short film format.

About Nikita Diakur

Nikita Diakur, an artist based in Germany, is known for portraying everyday activities using unconventional computer simulation methods that inherently bring randomness and chaos into his work. Known as the "Ugly" filmmaker, Diakur has participated in numerous international exhibitions and festivals, winning awards for his films Ugly, Fest, and backflip. Diakur has been part of the Artists-in-Residence program at Q21 in Vienna and is a member of the European Film Academy.

The Masterclass with Nikita Diakur will take place at Fredrikstad Kino on Saturday, October 25, and will be open to all attendees with either the festival’s Industry Pass or a student pass. Save the date and buy your pass today.
