Release of the Nordic-Baltic Feature Film Competition Program

Since 2019, the Fredrikstad Animation Festival has featured a competition program highlighting some of the most outstanding animated feature films from the Nordic and Baltic countries.

The program was established in response to the rapid development of the animation industry in the smaller Northern European countries over the past 15 years, which has resulted in both a higher volume of work and more ambitious productions. This year’s lineup offers a wide variety of tales for children and families – and even something as rare as an animated horror-comedy from Latvia. The program reflects the region’s rich tradition of stories for audiences of all ages, while also embracing experimental films that push the boundaries of animation as a medium to realize bold, visionary ideas.

Four films have been selected for the competition program, representing Norway, Finland, Denmark, and Latvia.
