It's not just about being gay… This year's short film submissions to the festival saw a record number of entries with queer themes or queer lead characters. It's clear that more and more animation directors are engaging with this subject matter, and as the number of films grows, so does the quality. That's why it felt fitting to create a program dedicated to queer films. This isn't a reason to include queer films in the competition program for its own sake, but rather an opportunity to expand the program with strong animated short films that bring a powerful perspective on diversity. The films explore identity, the fight for freedom, inclusion, and liberating sexuality. And, of course, love – because it really is that simple: love is love!
