Competition Programmes for Nordic-Baltic Animated Short Films

At the heart of the festival are the thrilling competition programmes showcasing the very best of Nordic-Baltic animated short films. With 58 outstanding films selected across the categories Short Film, Student Film, Commissioned Film, Young Audience, and Children's Film, this is where you see what the Nordic-Baltic region has to offer. 

Global Competition Short Film

Introducing a brand-new competition program featuring some of the finest animated shorts from around the world. In 2024 we have an exciting collection of top-notch animation from Croatia, Denmark, Portugal, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, France, Pland, Germany, Czech Republik, Switzerland, Netherlands, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovakia.

World Premier of Pulverheksa’s Magical Christmas

In this mini-movie, based on the popular books about the Pulverheksa, you get to experience two heartwarming stories that will delight both young and old.

Premature Premiere of Spermageddon

Following its world premiere at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where the audience responded with spontaneous cheering and a standing ovation, Tommy Wirkola and Rasmus Sivertsen’s wildly inventive new animated film Spermageddon is set for its first-ever Norwegian screening at FAF. Symposium – Visual Music

The Visual Music Symposium explores how visual art and animation intersect with music, where artists and researchers blend sound and visuals to create dynamic experiences. Four speakers, Birgitta Hosea, Derek Holtzer, William Bishop-Stevens, and Trygve Nielsen, present their work, which combines art, sound, and technology in groundbreaking ways.

Tech and Animation: Powering the Future of Creative Productions

Production Day brings the latest innovations in animation. Highlights include Bill Wise on Pixar’s streaming tech, Rasmus Sivertsen and Raymond Kreppene on streamlining CGI, and François Narboux on real-time engines for sustainable animation. Plus, Dr. Mhairi Aitken dives into AI ethics in the industry, and top Norwegian studios share their hottest upcoming projects.

Masterclasses – Patrick Imbert og Izabela Plucińska  

In these exciting masterclasses, Patrick Imbert will take you behind the scenes of his acclaimed adaptation of The Summit of the Gods, revealing key insights on transforming manga into film and mastering visual storytelling, and Izabela Plucińska will present her unique clay animation techniques, offering a fascinating look into her creative process, artistic vision, and the technical mastery behind her globally recognized films.

Each year, FAF brings together top producers, filmmakers, and studios from across the Nordic region for an exclusive forum highlighting the latest innovations in animation.
