Chris Robinson is a writer and the artistic director of the Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF). A prominent figure in the world of animation, Robinson received the Animafest Zagreb Award for Outstanding Contribution to Animation Studies in 2020, and in 2022, he was awarded the Prix René Jodoin for his contributions to Canadian animation. He has been described as "one of the most stylistically original and provocative experts in the history of animation."
Robinson gained recognition for his eclectic and influential magazine column Animation Pimp, which was later turned into a book of the same name. His published works on animation include Estonian Animation: Between Genius and Utter Illiteracy, Unsung Heroes of Animation, Canadian Animation: Looking for a Place to Happen, Ballad of a Thin Man: In Search of Ryan Larkin, Animators Unearthed, Japanese Animation: Time Out of Mind, Mad Eyed Misfits, Earmarked for Collision: A Highly Biased Tour of Collage Animation, and Cheer and Loathing in Animation.
In addition to his extensive writing on animation, Robinson wrote the award-winning animated short Lipsett Diaries (2010), directed by Theodore Ushev. Recently, Robinson completed an illustrated novel titled My Balls Are Killing Me in collaboration with German artist Andreas Hykade. He is currently working on Dreaming a Way (of) Life: The Films of Lewis Klahr and wrote the script for Theodore Ushev’s live-action feature film Idling, set to begin production in early 2025.
