Fredrikstad Animation Festival is ready to unveil the full program for FAF 2025 — a dynamic celebration of animated storytelling from around the globe. The festival presents a rich blend of world-class film competitions and in-depth industry sessions, alongside innovative initiatives such as relaxed screenings. For Film Lovers: Highlights and Returning Favorites

FAF remains committed to showcasing the best of Nordic-Baltic animation through its signature competition programs, featuring student, professional short, and feature films. The festival will present special screenings, family-friendly events, and retrospectives, highlighting both contemporary and classic animation. New this year, relaxed screenings will provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all attendees.

This year, FAF is excited to present a series of out-of-competition screenings at two of Fredrikstad’s favorite hangouts: Hoi polloi and TÆPS.

Both venues will provide an intimate and engaging atmosphere, perfect for discovering new voices and celebrating the diversity of animated expression.

EduFest also returns to FAF 2025, offering students and young professionals a dedicated platform to learn, network, and get inspired for careers in animation.

Moomin 80 Family Day: A Celebration of Moominvalley

On Sunday, 26 October FAF invites families, fans, and animation lovers to experience the enchanting world of Moominvalley. This special day is part of the global Moomin 80 celebrations, marking 80 years since the publication of Tove Jansson’s first Moomin story, The Moomins and the Great Flood.

Industry Program: A Day-by-Day Journey

FAF’s industry program is thoughtfully curated to encourage dialogue, innovation, and networking, shaping the future of animation. A new feature for Industry passholders is the Directory that will be available starting 08 October. This tool is designed to help you identify and reach out to fellow professionals ahead of time, ensuring you can maximize your festival experience from the moment you arrive

Thursday: Nordic Animation and Sustainability

Thursday at FAF is all about inspiration, collaboration, and practical knowledge. From learning how to navigate the international festival circuit to discovering the latest projects and trends in New Nordic Animation, these sessions offer valuable insights for anyone passionate about the art and business of animation.

Friday: Production Day and Tech in Focus

Friday features Production Day, a program dedicated to producers and the creative forces shaping today’s animation industry. This year’s theme, Shaping Stories, Reaching Audiences – Narrative Design in Animation, brings together leading voices from Europe and beyond.

Production Day is organized by Animasjon Norge, a division of Virke Produsentforeningen in collaboration with FAF and supported by The Norwegian Film Institute and Viken Film Centre. 

Saturday: Masterclasses and Symposium

Saturday features highly anticipated sessions, including masterclasses with renowned filmmakers, Liano-Cho Han and Nikita Diakur and the AI and Animation Symposium, which explores the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence in animation.
