Today at FAF26: Your Guide to Day Three

Day three is here: Fredrikstad Animation Festival continues today!

It’s day three at Fredrikstad Animation Festival! Here are some of the highlights of today’s program:

New Baltic Animation

FAF welcomes three directors from the Baltics to present their latest projects, ranging from short films to feature-length works. Join us as we explore the artistry and storytelling that define the next wave of animation. This will take place at Fredrikstad Kino - Screen 3, 13:00 - 14:15 pm.

Julian

Wide eyed Julián is about to spend the summer with a grandmother he barely knows. He is amazed to discover her treasure trove apartment, his own Caribbean heritage and the lively Brooklyn community he is surrounded by. But most surprising of all, Julián discovers that he is, in fact, a mermaid! Oscar nominated Louise Bagnall has created a story about family, imagination, and the importance of being yourself. The film is inspired by the book “Julian is a Mermaid” (Julian er en havfrue) by Jessica Love.

The movie will be screening at Fredrikstad Kino - Screen 4 at 15:30 - 17:00 pm.

Gaming Masterclass

Aslak Helgesen comes from a background in hand-drawn animation, and has built and performed physical puppets on stage. He moved into animating characters for games in 2012 and has since worked on games like Teslagrad, Moomintroll: Winter's Warmth and Knuckle Jet.

In this masterclass Aslak will show how he brings the look of traditional animation into games and how to let your audience be the puppeteers of your characters. In Teslagrad, the simple act of moving the character's head up and down let some players express themselves through the game. Small gestures and expressions that the audience can discover and play around with let them connect with your characters in a way that is unique to games.

Come join the masterclass at Fredrikstad Kino - Screen 3, 15:15 - 16:00 pm.

Nathan Jurevicius is known for his immersive worlds and unique characters. His best-known work is Scarygirl, featuring characters that span various media and formats, such as video games and animated film. This seminar will focus specifically on game development, with Nathan presenting the evolution of the Scarygirl IP across different gaming experiences and platforms. He will also discuss the differences between the VR version of the game and the console/online versions.

The masterclass starts at 16:00 - 16:45 pm, Fredrikstad Kino - Screen 3.

Animated Live: Wiffeney

FAF's live concept "Animated Live" is back! On Friday, 23 October, the Nordic region's leading animation festival presents a visual concert with the Norwegian-British band Wiffeney, fronted by animator and illustrator Steph Hope. Hope has previously had several of her films in the festival's competition programme, and now returns to Fredrikstad with a full band and self-produced animated visual art, which will be performed live at the St. Croix cultural house. You won't want to miss this!

Join us at St. Croix - Large Blackbox at 20:00 - 21:00 pm.

Sinking Road

Dotty gets pushed into the waters to drown by an unknown assailant, but instead gets stuck to a golden road which takes her to the underwater "Sinking Road Village", built by the 8 Buddhist Precepts. Watch this film at Fredrikstad Kino - Screen 4, 21:00 - 21:08 pm.

Can't wait to see you there!
