In total, 127 films were submitted to the Nordic-Baltic professional short and studemt competition categories. Norway stands out with 59 entries, reflecting strong local engagement with the festival. The competition features submissions from all Nordic-Baltic countries with Sweden contributing 33 films, followed by Estonia.
The 2025 Nordic-Baltic preselection jury is composed of FAF festival director Anders Narverud Moen, film journalist Kévin Giraud, and filmmaker and artist Carolina Sandvik. Together, they reviewed all submissions and select the official competition lineup, which will be announced at the beginning of August. About the Jury
Kévin Giraud is a writer, editor, and animation researcher with a passion for the art form’s history and contemporary voices. Based in Belgium, he is the Managing Editor of Surimpressions, the country’s only French-speaking cinema magazine. His writing has appeared in Cartoon Brew, Variety, Animation Magazine, Skwigly, and the European Animation Journal. Giraud also works with the Brussels Animation Festival, Anima, and curates the Animation Belgian newsletter, spotlighting Belgium’s vibrant animation scene to an international audience.
Carolina Sandvik (b. 1988, Avesta) is a Swedish filmmaker and visual artist based in Malmö. A graduate of Malmö Art Academy (MFA, 2019), her distinctive stop-motion and mixed-media work often blurs the lines between cinema and contemporary art. Her short The Expected won both the Best Swedish Short Dragon Award at Göteborg Film Festival and the Børge Ring Award at Odense Film Festival in 2021 and her latest film The Lovers won the FAF 2024 award for Best Nordic-Baltic Short Film.
