Nordic-Baltic Competition: Short Film 1

Since 1996, the festival's long-standing competition program has showcased the best productions from the Nordic and Baltic regions. This year's competition program is strongly marked by a great year for stop-motion and puppet film, and the many co-productions – both within the Nordic region and with other countries – leave a clear mark on this year's selection. Program 1 features a varied film program, with variation found in the visual expression, ranging from black-and-white drawn animation to colorful stop-motion. Thematically, however, the common thread is cinematic observation: whether it's abstract, direct animation, sea creatures' ability to perceive color, the act of creating or recalling memories, or the visualization of stalking, the filmmakers draw on animation's curious and creative nature to tell their film stories.
