This year's Guest of Honour, Eija Saarinen, co-founded the animation programme at the Turku Arts Academy in 1994 together with the acclaimed Estonian animation director Priit Pärn. It is widely regarded as one of the most significant animation programmes in the Nordic region. The programme emphasised personal expression and storytelling, a diversity of techniques, and support for each student's individual path within the many fields of animation. This retrospective focuses on films produced during Saarinen's tenure as head of the programme, including a number of award winners from previous editions of the Fredrikstad Animation Festival. The selection has been curated by Eija Saarinen, artistic director of the Turku Animation Film Festival, together with Joni Männistö and Elli Vourinen, the current head of animation studies in Turku.
